HOW TO USE BREAST MYLK POWDER
Freeze Dried breastmilk is not sterile and therefore needs to be stored and prepared correctly to prevent contamination and/or bacterial growth. It's imperative that safe handling is followed at all times
Storage Recommendations
Rehydrated Breast Mylk
- Once milk is rehydrated (water added), it must be used within 2hrs or preparation and 1hr once feeding begins.
- If you do not start to use the rehydrated milk within the 2hrs storey in the prepared bottle, in the fridge and use within 24hrs.
- Do not refreeze rehydrated milk.
- Throw out any milk that remains in the bottle after feeding.
- Please note the combination of milk and your babies saliva can cause bacteria to grow.
- Ensure sterilisation and hand hygiene is adhered too.
Powder
- Store sealed pouches in a cool, dry, indoor place.
- Once pouch is opened, store in a cool, dry place with the pouch resealed tightly in the refrigerator
- Discard unused powder after 3days.
- Do not use past expiration date on custom label.
Rehydrating Mylk Process
Step One: Add Water to Bottle
- Add room temperature or warmed water to a pre-sterilised bottle.
- The measurements on the pouch label will rehydrate the powder to your breastmilk original consistency.
- Always measure water first then add the powder.
- Never heat the water in a microwave as this can destroy the nutrients and create hot spots which can burn the babies mouth.
- Warm water over a running tap, boiling water or on stove top.
Step Two: Add Power to Bottle
- Tear open the pouch
- Pour the powder directly into the bottle
- If not using all powder, use clean dry measuring spoon/cup
Step Three: Mix It
- Close the lid
- Swirl the bottle around
- Depending on the fat content it may take a while for it to dissolve completely.
- If any clumps remain, heat the bottle under warm running water and continue to swirl.
- Sometimes adding slightly warmer water is necessary to dissolve all the fats within the milk.
- Ensure that the milk is not too hot for the baby.
Step Four: Feed
